4. My computer does not have, or my O/S does not support, a USB port. How can I connect to GTHS service?

If, for some reason, you do not use the USB port, you will be able to connect to the ADSL modem using an Ethernet card. Traditional serial ports do not allow for high-speed data transfer. This is why the Ethernet interface is required. The allowable speed then will be 10 Mbps, which is sufficient for GTHS service.

5. If I use the Ethernet port of the ADSL modem, does my computer need a specific Ethernet network card?

No. GTHS service by ADSL modem works with all types of cards as long as they have RJ45 outlets.

6. How can I find out if my computer has an Ethernet network card?

There are two ways to find out if your computer has an Ethernet network card:

  • Click your desktop's My Computer icon. Right click the PROPERTIES? item of the menu. Then click the DEVICE MANAGER tab and select NETWORK ADAPTERS. If you get an entry containing one of the following: "Ether Link ISA", "PCI", "PCMCIA", "Ether Card" or a reference to an Ethernet brand name such as: "3Com, Realteck", then an Ethernet card has already been installed on your computer.

7. Does GlobeTrotter supply Ethernet network cards?

No. Given the large amount of computer types, Ethernet network card's installation and
configuration are the responsibility of the customer.

8. What is the difference between PCI, ISA and PCMCIA cards? Which one should I select?

A PCMCIA card is used with a laptop computer. If you use a laptop that does not already have an integrated Ethernet network card, this is the type of card you will need to install.

PCI and ISA are two types of Ethernet network cards used with desktop computers. Both work well with GTHS service. However, the PCI card is more recent than the ISA card. If you have the choice and your computer has a free PCI slot, we recommend you use a PCI card.
